La Chamba, María Del Pilar

Thursday July 12  |  7:00pm - 10:00pm
Levitt Pavilion - MacArthur Park L.A. - Los Angeles

La Chamba

"Chamba" means work, and is a word used on the streets throughout Latin America to describe the hustle. With each members roots in East and South LA, La Chamba fuses electric guitar and organs with heavy Afro-Latin rhythms (cumbia, salsa, timba and rumba), to create a working-class sound inspired by 1960s and 70s psychedelic Peruvian surf-pop music known as "Chicha." With their infectious stage presence and interactive performances, La Chamba effortlessly revives this lost era of unusually modern cumbia.

Maria Del Pilar

María Del Pilar is at the forefront of LA’s progressive, alternative Latin music scene. She first started making noise in the city as the frontwoman for pop group Los Abandoned, which played heavily in the LA circuit in the early to mid-2000s. Afterwards, using María del Pilar as her primary songwriting vehicle, María Del Pilar started focusing on smart, razor-sharp pop hooks, chock full of playful breakdowns and vibrant, Latin textures. Described by CNN Español as one of the most important voices in the Latin alternative music scene in the United States, her music loves Talking Heads and Bjork as much as it does Donna Summer and Chilean Folkloric tunes.
