The Slackers

Hailing from Manhattans Lower East Side, The Slackers are equal parts grit and grace. Their rise to fame is a story of perseverance and a belief in their musical vision combining Jamaican ska and reggae with American rock n roll. While they have been influenced (and even personally taught) by Jamaican ska/reggae originators, such as the Skatalites and the Upsetters, the band sees its music as wholly American. Smashing the stereotypes of ska, The Slackers put a new spin on the genre by playing with an aggressive edge that interweaves personal and political accounts.
